8th Grade Creating Theater Elective (Period 7)

This course will provide students with the opportunity to build on the skills they have acquired in their 7^th grade Theater Elective course and create a richer open dialogue about the purpose of theater and how to critique performances.  Students will use these conversations to create their own monologues that express something important to them either about their own self-expression or about the world around them.  Students will engage in critical decision-making about staging and designing their monologue presentations based on research.

Students will be encouraged to create a piece of work that is representative of their beliefs and articulates their focus on the world at the moment.  This will also enable students who may not be motivated to continue working in the theatrical realm, to choose to create something they care about personally.
