7th Grade Theater Elective (Period 4)

Course Description

Course Description:
This course will center around an introduction to theater as a craft, and its role within self-expression and making an impact on the world.  Students will be introduced to various theatrical styles throughout history, and practice many of those styles as they learn.  Students will employ basic acting styles of improvisation and pantomime, and gain an understanding of the rehearsal process.  The course will culminate in a collaborative scene performance.

Philosophy and Approach:

This course will serve as a introduction to why theater (and art as a whole) matters in the world, regardless of what path each student takes later in life.  This course should illuminate the importance of artistic choices and expression.  Last but not least, this course should serve as a fun way for students to explore their own means of self-identity through role-play.
