Description
In English 7 we will be exploring a beautiful variety of literature, ranging from classics to contemporary. We will also delve into the realm of non-fiction, and learn about expression and creativity through our writing. I am so excited to be teaching English 7 again this year and cannot wait to see what we discover together!

Students will be using their knowledge of etymology and root words to create spells in the style of Harry Potter as well as an "advertisement" for their spell.

Argument Essay Final Draft
 
Students will have constructed complete drafts of well-developed, logical essays that argue their stance on a particular topic. The final draft will focus on the practicalities of English, including grammar, syntax, spelling, punctuation and capitalization.

Argument Essay First Draft
 
The students are tasked with constructing an essay that uses reasoning and evidence to back up a claim (argument) about a particular topic. We have discussed counterclaims, rebuttals, credibility and logic and all these must be present in their essays. Students are presenting their opinions in a rational, well-thought-out way while maintaining formal tone and style.

Vocabulary Project
 
Students will select a vocabulary word from Unit 3. They will write the word in a font that is appropriate to the connotation and denotation of the word. The students will then create their OWN DEFINITION to the word. Using the card stock provided, students will then select images and items that they associate with their chosen word. Their grade will be judged on accuracy and creativity.
